The difference between SOHC and DOHC engines is the number of camshafts in the engine. SOHC stands for a single overhead camshaft engine. DOHC stands for dual overhead camshaft, which means that there are two camshafts in the cylinder head. Most modern motors fit into one of these categories. SOHC = Single Overhead Camshaft.
