6. Re: Hailing a Cab in Paris. Except as noted above--within proximity to a regular taxi rank--hailing an available taxi on the street is certainly acceptable. The 'catch' is that many taxis are radio-dispatched and what often appears to be an empty taxi is on its way to a pre-dispatched pick-up.
Taxis still generally operate on a cash (Hong Kong Dollar) basis. Some (but not the majority of) taxis take Octopus and Visa cards. If you use Uber, which has acquired HKTaxi and can actually get you a licensed Taxi in Hong Kong, you can pay in the app with your card.

Very FEW taxis in Paris have the ability to 'read' credit cards. In as much as you will have been in France for a while before arriving in Pariscoming up with the relatively small amount of €uro cash to pay a taxi fare shouldn't be a burden. There really is no convenient Metro connection between Gare de Lyon and your destination address.

9 years ago. Save. Contrary to common belief, they do card in Paris. Those of legal age bring the student id's from their universities or a left over fake ID from their younger days. If they are not of legal age they have fake IDs that can be purchased online from Spain. They look like driver's licenses.

In a couple of dozen CDG-Paris rides, the expertise of the Taxi Parisien drivers has been really impressive.Now that they have GPS and the traffic congestion reporting available to them, they don't waste time "touring" tourists to add a couple of euros to the meter.
